Woman Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Stop Attack Dies
The female victim who was stabbed in the neck in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop in Birmingham has died, police have confirmed.
The deceased woman, who was 34, came under attack in Smallbrook Queensway, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, shortly before 9 PM GMT on Friday, according to police statements.
The suspect, twenty-one, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court Monday morning, facing charges for the attack.
He was previously accused with attempted murder however after the victim's passing the charge has been updated to include murder.
Law Enforcement Actions
Authorities stated officers would be in the downtown area on Monday to offer reassurance, and investigators were supporting the woman's family.
Investigators are requesting for witnesses who might have observed Mr Rafael, who is described as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, athletic shoes and rucksack.
Incident Location
The knife attack occurred outside Bullring retail complex, across from primary access point of New Street railway station.
Law enforcement confirmed they classified it as a random violent act with investigators stating efforts continue to determine the motive behind.
Witness Accounts
An area worker, who works nearby, described the emergency response after completing her shift around 10 PM on Friday.
She described the scene as extremely disorderly, adding that co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances at about 21:00.
"A lot of co-workers take public transport, ride the tramline... our security is compromised fundamentally, in the downtown area."
Ashley Birks, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting to Birmingham quite frequently to see his girlfriend who lives in the city, expressing concern about what had happened.
"It causes concern for my girlfriend," he said.
"She lacks transportation employed at all of the big music venues... and to think something completely unprovoked occurred, understandably, it's terrible."
